Pilgrimage | Introduction

Pilgrimage ......'A journey to a sacred place'

This Spring Bank Holiday Weekend get away from the hustle and bustle of London, put Trafalgar Square's traffic and shoppers behind you and head off down the Pilgrims Way to Canterbury. Put a spring in your step along with 99 other walkers from 'every background under the sun' and discover the sacred place in yourself and that of the journey from St. Martin-in-the-Fields to Canterbury Cathedral. There in the cloisters we commemorate Rev Dick Sheppard (an early 20th Century saint who established social care for homeless people at St. Martin's) and celebrate our own completion of a 72 mile journey of the spirit, of physical challenge and of a triumph in co-operation for a very good cause. We walk for homeless people a few of whom will walk with us. Beyond suburban Swanley it becomes a journey across Kent by footpath and bridleway, fields and orchards, riverside and hills until he beckoning spires of Canterbury Cathedral signal the closeness of our pilgrimage destination. Join us. You will never forget it and you might just want to do it again next year, most of us do!
