In 2008 the Pilgrimage will be Launched again from the steps of St. Martin's at 10.30am, this year on Friday 23rd May. I hope that the building work on the front of the church will have been completed and the scaffolding removed so that we shall be able to deal with registration in the Portico too. To register simply arrive with your luggage (which we shall carry for you on our van) and present yourself to Registration on the Portico.
The Pilgrimage is a journey of body, mind and spirit. Join us on the journey of a lifetime!
Most of the initial information to help you is contained in the ’downloadable registration leaflet’ at the end of this site . Much of the practical and detailed info is sent out when applications have been received however you may like to know that :
- all healthcare issues are overseen by a team that travels with us which usually includes a doctor, nurse, podiatrist and masseur.
- All heavy luggage is carried in a tail-lift van
- All food for the weekend is supplied at no extra charge. This includes breakfast. lunch and an evening meal each day plus regular en route light refreshments with plenty of liquids.
- We hope that all walkers will get some level of sponsorship and even employer sponsorship or matched funding. Where-ever possible we appreciate sponsors who can ‘Gift Aid ‘ their donation.
The Registration fees are effectively payment for a service so these are not ‘Gift Aid-able’.
- We travel in groups led by at least one person who knows the route, you are asked to stay with your group. In 16 years we have only lost one pilgrim...and he just caught the train home!
- Most people travel home as a group on the Bank Holiday Monday from Canterbury West station on a pre-booked train. Unless you have made alternative plans do let us know that you wish to travel by train on our group ticket. The departure after the service in the Cathedral is complicated do watch out for instructions about getting to the station and collecting your luggage.
- There are occasions when pilgrims who can sing, recite, read poetry etc. get a chance to perform if there is anything that you would like to do just let me know!
- While the Pilgrimage is about lifting spirits and spreading good humour...most people will have moments when it all gets a bit exhausting...that is when we have to watch out for each other, be sensitive to others and to be supportive. As with the Four Musketeers “All for one and one for all”!
- Do register as soon as you can. That helps our administration and ensures that you get a place before we hit our ceiling. The FINAL DAY for registration this year will be 14 th. May .
